- Planning with Pearson Mathematics

This 2nd edition has been written in units of work from which a school is able to design a coherent mathematics programme that will ensure coverage of the Mathematics and Statistics curriculum. Using Pearson Mathematics as a framework for a mathematics programme schools can be confident they are providing appropriate continuity of mathematical ideas for students to build a solid foundation of mathematical understanding.

At Level 2
There are 2 pupils books and 2 teacher guides

 - Book 2a stage 4 – 5.

- Book 2b stage 5.

Covers Number and Algebra, both knowledge and strategy in the addition / subtraction, multiplication / division and proportions and ratio domains at stage 5, curriculum level 2. The books also cover Geometry + Measure and Statistics strands using mathematical thinking and knowledge from stage 5 of the NZ number framework.

At Level 3
There are 2 pupils books and 2 teacher guides.

- Book 3a stage 5 – 6.

- Book 3b stage 6.

These books cover number + algebra in both knowledge and strategy in the addition / subtraction, multiplication / division and proportions and ratios domains at stage 6, curriculum level 3.
The books also cover Geometry + Measure and Statistics strands using mathematical thinking and knowledge from stage 6 of the NZ number framework.

At Level 4
There are 2 pupil text books, 2 teacher guides and 2 maintenance workbooks.

- Book 4a stage 6 – 7.

- Book 4b stages 7 - 7+.

These books cover number & algebra knowledge and strategy. Students must have good additive strategies and will further develop their multiplicative and early proportional thinking strategies.

Work in Geometry and Measurement and Statistics will also demand multiplicative and proportional reasoning from stage 6 to stage 8.

- Maintenance Workbooks

These books are intended to provide students with opportunities to consolidate prior learning by revising key knowledge and using their mathematics to solve problems.

The books are set out in weekly assignments (9 each term). Each assignment revises some key knowledge to remind students of what they already know.

The problems are designed to make students think mathematically and use problem solving strategies rather than simply recall set procedures.

Special features for Levels 2, 3 and 4

Challenges:

Open ended extension activities intended to challenge children’s thinking – to take the activity one step further

Mini Projects:

Open ended mathematical applications to allow children to:

  • Develop problem solving strategies
  • Apply mathematical knowledge
  • Experience meaningful contexts for mathematics
